Dr. Boris G.Vainer
The list of elucidated themes in infrared thermography problems is presented below. The material is prepared for presentation in both English and Russian. The informative and teaching, abundantly illustrated lectures and/or seminars (workshops) are mainly based on the author"s original scientific results, publications and first-hand experience. At request of the organizers, it is possible to combine arbitrarily the items following. For all entrained students, these lectures lift the veil of invisibility from outward things and phenomena. It stimulates participants for new creative ideas in their activity.
1. An Exotic World of the Infrared
(A short-cut series of lectures devoted to infrared radiation, present-day infrared thermography, and multilateral applications of the latter.)
• the basics of thermal radiation;
• infrared-sensitive materials, families of the IR detectors;
• infrared imaging cameras and systems;
• peculiarities of the thermal vision - what is truth, and what is falsity;
• fundamentals in use infrared cameras in various spheres, and corresponding illustrations:
- science;
- remote sensing;
- non-destructive testing (NDT);
- power engineering;
- industry;
- medicine;
- veterinary medicine;
- cosmetology;
- etc.
2. Unconventional IR imaging system based on the InAs MIS CID FPA detector
(Seminar for everybody who are interested in new technical solutions in IR thermography sphere.)
•physical principles of the detector functioning;
•arrangement of the device;
•operational factors and performance capabilities of the IR thermograph;
software;
•illustrative thermograms from various fields of application (infrared thermography, multichannel spectrometry, NDT, monitoring in real time scale).
3. Application of the infrared imaging to recognition and control of the interface voids in multilayer structures, and specifically in semiconductor wafer bonding
•The lecture is oriented to :
•manufacturers of a broad spectrum of semiconductor devices (more particularly, in power electronics, micro-mechanics);
•specialists producing or utilizing two-layer or multi-layer materials partially transparent to infrared radiation;
everyone who intend to spread his knowledge in the infrared imaging area.
4. Medical infrared thermography
(Popular seminars/lectures for physicians and medical students)
•general physical principles of the infrared thermography;
•design and arrangement of the infrared cameras and systems;
•physiological mechanisms of heat generation and propagation within human body;
•heat exchange with environment;
•fertile fields for medical infrared thermography;
•typical methods and routine for infrared thermography examination;
•artifacts in the IR images;
•examples of thermograms in normal and pathological cases in a variety of medical areas;
•"ecological niche" of infrared thermography among other diagnostic methods in medicine.
5. Infrared imaging in the cosmetology
(Popular seminar with non-standard information for beauty makers, formulators of cosmetic means, and manufacturers of the facilities destined for cosmetic treatments.)
•physical and physiological mechanisms of human skin temperature change while cosmetic means or cosmetological treatments are acting;
•brief introduction to the infrared thermography;
•real cases and manifold examples of the infrared thermography use in cosmetology;
•place and role of the infrared imaging in modern beauty science.
6. Narrow spectral range infrared thermography in the vicinity of 3 mic operating wavelength
(The seminar demonstrates some advantages of middle-infrared thermography systems built on the narrow spectral range detector. The presented material is illustrated by multiple real examples from all above-mentioned applications.)
